Dueling Powerbooks

Who, besides me, finds this image funny? This is my father-in-law, Tom Badgett, along with my daughter, Sarah, from this past weekend.

St. Louis, Part 1

We made a quick trip to St. Louis this past weekend to shoot some pics. It was snowing when we got there.

I really like St. Louis. I think I like its grittiness. I like the old industrial look from the 20s and 30s. Anyway, here's the first part of what I got...

Flowers

While I was shooting food last weekend at the Brushmark in the Brooks Museum of Art, I grabbed a few frames of a flower sitting on the table. Here's what I got...

I'm thinking about adding a section to my site of Fine Art images for sale. These might be my first additions.

More Laney

Here’s an update to one of my earlier shoots, with Laney Mann. The full session is now online here. If you’re interested in hiring an up-and-coming model, she’s a natural. These images practically took themselves.

Dodge Demon

Now this is cool. As a former owner of a Mazda Miata, this looks like something I could be interested in. Dodge is going to show this concept vehicle at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March. The vehicle is designed to compete with the popular Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky, as well as the Mazda MX-5 (Miata). I think it looks a lot like the Honda S2000 from the side.

"While the iconic Dodge Viper is a dream car for many, the Dodge Demon is designed to be an attainable dream car," said Jae Chung – Dodge Demon Principal Exterior Designer, Chrysler Group. "The exterior design is simple yet bold, featuring an energetic combination of curves and intersecting planes."

Power comes from a 172 horsepower 2.4 liter engine, offering peak torque of 165 pound-feet. A six-speed manual sends power to the rear wheels. Weight is estimated a 2600 pounds. Dodge officials say an SRT version could also be offered with a 300 horsepower four-cylinder from the Dodge Caliber SRT-4.

Now if they will just price it so that mere mortals can afford it...

Food, Glorious Food!

Over the weekend I shot some publicity images for the Brushmark, which is the restaurant in the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art. I'm pretty pleased with the way they turned out. The restaurant has such good light. All of these images were shot with only natural light and a gold bounce card.

Special thanks goes out to Stacy, Heather, Andrew, and of course Chef Wally Joe, for making it a wonderful shoot. The best part—I got to eat the props when we were done!

Have a look at the rest of the previews here.

Snow! IN MEMPHIS! (for real this time)

You did, in fact, read that correctly. We did have snow in Memphis last friday. Enough in fact that the college was closed and I had a snow day at home. So, of course, I pulled out the camera. Too bad it didn't last much longer than it took for me to take these pictures.

Canon HV20

Last week I said I was lusting after the Canon HV10 HD video camera. I really love its form factor. It's just a cool looking device. I feel certain that I would have loved having one. Until today.

Today Canon announced the HV20

It's styled more like a traditional camcorder, which I'm not so sure I like. In fact, it looks a little amateurish. But you can't argue with its feature list.

• True HD Sensor (1920x1080)
• 24p Cinema Mode
• CINE setting, which changes the color and tone to more closely resemble film
• Vastly Improved Low-Light Performance (50% greater than the HV10)
• HDMI output
• Optical (rather than digital) Image Stabilization
• 3.1 Megapixel Still camera with built-in flash
• Accessory Shoe (which the HV10 didn't have)
• Audio Input (also which the HV10 didn't have)

It goes on sale in April for a suggested $1,099, but look for that to be discounted through most online retailers.
